It's a challenge for Australia to set fresh records.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

This is the team that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, along with another six T20 titles, and once went nearly four years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, the ones sought by the peak baggers, are the only things left for a squad that has achieved everything.

The fact it required until Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase above 300, reclaiming their record for the biggest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the pitchers that have sported the yellow jersey over the last half-century.

It's difficult for their batters to possess a record if not provided the opportunity.

Finally, the result of Australia allowing 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy getting a platform to deliver her most recent brilliance.

Originally famous as the teenage relative of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her nation failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups from the prior year and has experienced everything through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 championship victory happened three months after her bow and seven international trophies have followed from 10 efforts across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India momentarily interrupted the run of success.

That loss "motivated us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy said this week.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the title decider and was declared player of the series. She guaranteed her country would not fall short again.

If this recent magnificent innings surpassed that earlier display is debatable.

Some will argue the case for final game tension. Different voices suggest with the challenge that comes when facing a record target and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What is certain is this century was far harder to predict.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 occurred when she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings was preceded by six games in India over the past few weeks in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've been watching me in training, it has been a challenging time because I feel like my form was missing completely," stated Healy.

"Yet the moment you take the field, your competitive nature kick in and you completely engage with the contest."

Healy's competitive nature has consistently been her key asset - and a priceless quality in succeeding iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, out to the emerging pace bowler in all three matches, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's spark.

A single was taken off the bowler's initial ball and from there the right-hander was on her way.

"A chance to take the field and engage in competition with her and merely enjoy the moment that way, sort of got me going," said Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 deliveries - her quickest at a World Cup - and her century in 84 balls as she punished short deliveries, scoring 21 fours and three sixes.

When she was removed the team needed 66 more at run per delivery - a manageable total now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Pursuing 330 is new territory so I'm pleased we have the assurance to do that now," stated Healy further.

"Hopefully we don't have to repeat it but, if necessary, we know we can do it."

Those words will be the last competing nations at this tournament should hear.

In recent days a sense they will win from any position has only strengthened - this victory following success over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite being 76-7 at a certain moment.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with traditional opponents England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final place may likely be confirmed.

During that phase they left the previous year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - an encounter Healy was absent due to ruptured tissue in her foot as she led her country for the inaugural occasion at a significant event.

So great is her will, she afterwards commented she regretted not playing through the pain.

But while she subsequently acknowledged those physical issues have delayed thoughts of retirement, this World Cup is expected to be her last as captain in one-day cricket and she is hasn't yet secured a world championship as captain.

Victory in India would lead her to the peak of her ultimate challenge.
